Psychological Service

To us at the Diak, our patients are not merely bodies to be treated, but people with personality, emotional needs and their own, unique situations.

The psychological service at the hospital has a qualified psychologist and views itself as an offer to patients and relatives who wish psychological accompaniment. Mostly this takes place in form of talks, but it can, e.g. also a relaxation training.

One focus of its work is the accompaniment of cancer patients. A diagnosis such as cancer, and the treatment which is sometimes both extensive and strenuous, is not only a physical load, but often also means great emotional stress. Our experiences, our thoughts, values and emotions, as well as our relations with other people, are sources of strength we can tap in order to better cope with life with a physical disease and its treatment.

Psychological support can also help with psychical problems (e.g. fear and depression), psychosomatic ailments - i.e. emotional stress manifesting in physical symptoms - or conflicts within the family etc. This often means help in acute crisis.

It can sometimes be an inducement to face one's problems more directly and search therapeutic help for after hospitalisation. If needed, our psychologist can help with choosing a suitable therapist, an advisory bureau, a self help group or psychosomatic health cure.
