Facts, Facts, Facts:
Beginning students meet at:
Secretary's Office ("Sekretariat") of PD Dr. Markus Menges
Duty:
In the subject of Internal Medicine, students are required to do five nights of night duty. While working in the internist section, they are expected to work in the internal intensive care unit and at the laboratory for one week each.
Generally, each ward is allocated one PY-student.
Classes for the students are conducted regularly every week (appr. 4x2 hours).
In the framework of classes on Radiology, students are instructed and tested in radiation protection (which, together with clinical work and later, additional courses [basic and special course radiation protection] is a prerequisite for the necessary practical knowledge of radiation protection).
Accommodation and meals are provided at no cost to the students.
On a one-off basis, every student is provided € 70.00 for the acquisition of the necessary working clothes. This sum can be picked up at the buying department (in the nurses' home) by presenting a receipt of the purchase. The working clothes remain the property of the students.
During practical training, students of medicine are insured against accidents according to § 539 Sec. 1 No. 7 of the "PVO". Accidents at work have to be reported to the "Studiendekanat" (Dean's Office) of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Heidelberg. A brief notification in writing to the personnel department of the Diak is also necessary.
Other issues concerning insurance and liability are also clearly resolved. Students of medicine remain insured against illness during clinical-practical training, as do students of other faculties during periods of practical training (this is the gist of an official anouncement of the ministry of education and the arts from 24 May, 1977).
The diaconal hospital has liability insurance, particularly against liabilities resulting from negligent supervision, with the "Württembergische Gemeinde-
versicherungsverein" at Stuttgart. Liability insurance between the hospital and the "Württembergische Gemeinde-
versicherungsverein" was expanded accordingly.
Insurance covers the same sums as the respective contracts with the hospital. If liabilities towards third parties is culpably caused by students, the State exempts the hospital from liability, unless negligence in supervision on part of the hospital's employee responsible is evident. In that case, liability insurance covers the liabilities.
Unfortunately, the hospital cannot pay the students, since such payment is neither covered by the hospital and nursing charges, nor provided by the State
