Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy

Together with physio- and speech therapy, occupational therapy is one of the specialised medical professions. These support and supplement the work of the medical practitioners and the nursing personnel.

At the Diak, occupational therapists work mainly in the areas of neurology, surgery, internal medicine, geriatrics and paediatrics.

We treat patients of any age suffering from disorders pertaining to

  • Gross and Minute Motor Activity
  • Coordination
  • Sensory perception or the sensorimotor system
  • Stamina, resilience and
    posttraumatic brain syndrome

as well as psychological, emotional or social impairment.

During their stay at the hospital, patients receive occupational therapy on a regular basis, but there is out-patient care, too. Treatment is singly or in groups.

The occupational therapists work in accordance with concepts orientated towards everyday activities. We specifically include manual and creative processes and practical activities of everyday life as therapeutic measures.

Occupational therapy treatment always foregrounds the support and encouragement of independence, which is achieved through motoric and functional training, by adapting and testing various aids, and through neuro-physiological and sensomotoric exercises

Occupational therapy aims at making the patients achieve or regain the greatest possible capability to act.
