Help for the Elderly

In our homes and nursing homes are structured so as to combine housing and care and thus provide elderly people with an opportunity for a long-term home without being expected to move to another area of the house if they find themselves in need of nursing.

There is a range of rooms available, single and double rooms as well as small flats.

The services offered follow the directions given in the 'Pflegeversicherungsgesetz' (law on health care insurance), and can be supplemented by a range of additional services. For ecclesiastical and cultural life, we offer a varied range of smaller and greater events such as church services and prayers, singing and 'coffee & conversation' groups.

Thanks to our committed voluntary helpers, there are many other interesting options here. There is a comfortable place to meet at the "Café Stüble" (coffee room). Theatrical and musical events and film shows are organised on a regular basis. Last, but definitely not least, there is the annual flea market in the summer, the proceeds of which make this varied cultural programme possible.

Every month brings a new "GWH - Blättle" - a magazine of, by, and for the residents. Seasonal festivities and various offers for trips, outings and excursions round off the programme and help to maintain contact with people outside of the homes and with relatives.

There are three short-term places and a day-care unit for guests from outside. Elderly people living at home can spend their day at the day-care unit in care and company, and make use of a wide range of offers. Day care has the primary task of preventing the ever-increasing isolation and loneliness of the elderly. Moreover, it takes a significant part of the load off the relatives. It is also financially supported on the grounds of the health care insurance. Often day care is the way in which an elderly person's wish to remain in his or her familiar surroundings for some more time can be met and the move into a nursing home postponed. The short-term care which is offered also works in favour of this aim by making a 'time-out' such as a health cure and/or holiday possible for nursing relatives.

Another area of work is the management of "Ilgenwiesen", a housing estate for the elderly which is owned by the town of Schwäbisch Hall. The Diak offers various basic and optional services of "attended housing" (Betreutes Wohnen), which often enable elderly people to live in their own flat independently for many years.
