Gynaecological Clinic
On average, approximately 1.200 children per year are born at the diaconal hospital, and about 1.800 diagnostic and surgical operations performed in the area of gynaecology and obstetrics.
Focus of Work at the Clinic:
Treatment of and care for women with gynaecological diseases, obstetrics, and perinatal medicine.
In treating our patients, we strive to make use of all the possibilities modern medicine provides, without neglecting good, tried and tested traditions. In diagnostics as well as therapy, all advantages of a large modern hospital are at our disposal. For example, all methods of minimally invasive surgery and specialised ultrasonographic diagnostics are employed. In the treatment of women with cancer, however, while making use of medical technology - surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy - the emphasis is on humane and emotional care for our patients. We also view it as one of our tasks to advise our patients on possibly useful 'alternative' methods of supporting the treatment. In this, openness and honesty are a matter of course. We regularly offer a discussion group for women who have undergone breast surgery.
In the area of obstetrics, we cooperate closely with the paediatric section to supervise a higher-than-average number of what are called high-risk pregnancies and births.
For unproblematic births, alternative concepts such as employing homeopathic medicine, acupuncture, and aromatics during birth can be offered. The delivery rooms are laid-out in a modern and family-friendly manner. The position to give birth in can be adapted to the patient's wishes.
We want both the mothers and the infants to feel cared for and in good hands during their days in the maternity ward. Thus comprehensive counselling on breast-feeding and lactation, and Rooming-In are offered at the gynaecological clinic. The nurses and children's nurses care for mother and child holistically.
During pregnancy, we offer birth-preparation courses and a chance to visit the delivery room.
