Anaesthesiology and Surgical Intensive Care

Anaesthesiology and Surgical Intensive

Every year, about 1.000 patients seriously injured or recently operated on are treated, and sometimes kept breathing artificially, until they can be transferred to the general wards. Approximately 9.000 anaesthetisations are conducted per year.

The central operating section, the induction, the waking-up ward and the surgical intensive care unit are all fitted with state-of-the-art equipment. In 1993, the section completed the range of its capabilities by setting up a permanent department for ambulant pain treatment.

The state-approved place of further vocational training in anaesthetics and intensive care is run and managed by our section. Students of Heidelberg University are taught and trained here in the subject of anaesthetics and surgical intensive care.
